It's time to harvest your sunflower seeds if the heads are dry and wilting!
When the backs of the flower heads are yellow and the bracts are brown, wait about 2 weeks and then cut heads with one foot of stem. Spread face down on cardboard and dry for another week. Lie them seed-side down on a sheet and gently beat the back of each seed head with a stick. Remove seeds and store in their kernels in a cool, dry place. Save some for yourself & some for the library.
Your donation will join the donations of other gardeners, ensuring we have seeds to plant for seasons to come.
Please remember to attach a donation form and to your donation! Feel free to ask a library staff person to print one out for you.
