Join Arizona Land and Water Trust for a Virtual Happy Hour, featuring Special Guests Dennis Moroney and Petey Mesquitey!

Friday, May 15, 4:00 - 4:30 p.m. PST

Across the country, communities are adjusting to a new reality where good food grown locally is suddenly more sought after. Many farmers markets, restaurants, and local producers have had to become more innovative to get their products to communities. We've been curious how the recent pandemic has impacted Southern Arizona producers and are excited for the opportunity to meet and talk with the individuals and families that help sustain our communities.

This week, we'll be joined by special guests, rancher Dennis Moroney and native plant expert/enthusiast Petey Mesquitey! Both from rural Cochise County, they have witnessed first-hand how local farmers markets have changed during these trying times.

Combining traditional cowboy and vaquero skills with innovative and non-traditional practices, Dennis and Deborah Moroney produce grass-fed beef, goat, lamb, and pecans in semi-arid desert grassland. Their grass-fed Sky Island Brand meat can be found at farmers' markets throughout Southern Arizona. Dennis is passionate about sustainability and education and has taught students in various capacities for more than twenty years.

Most commonly known for his community radio show, Growing Native, on Tucson's KXCI, Petey Mesquitey is a poet and musician with a passion for the Sonoran Desert. A self-proclaimed native plant nerd and horticulturist, he began Spadefoot Nursery in 1996 after moving from Tucson to the Chiricahua Mountains. No stranger to the Bisbee Farmers' Market, Petey's native plants can now be purchased throughout Tucson.
