Your Farmers Are Here for You!

The New Year is here! As you dive into those 2020 resolutions, Arizona farmers and ranchers are here for you! Whether your goal is to cook more, eat more fresh fruits and veggies or responsibly-raised meats, get outside and walk, shop locally, or spend more time with friends, look no further than your community farms and markets for great healthy food options.

Here are two ways to get the freshest Arizona foods into your kitchen:

🥕 Farmers Markets

Shop from a wide variety of the week’s freshest fruits and veggies, the best locally-raised meats, bread with pronounceable-ingredients, condiments, and more. And — get your Vitamin D and daily steps in while you’re browsing the aisles!

Arizona Markets are held on most days of the week, so don’t let your schedule hold you hostage. While many are held on Saturday mornings, there’s a diversity of schedules: Flagstaff holds its market Sunday mornings, and the Elliot Road Community Farmers Market is on Wednesdays, just to name a couple.

🥬 CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture)

Often referred to as a farmbox or produce subscription, the idea is simple: customers pay a bulk fee upfront and in exchange they receive a weekly (or bi-weekly) bag of produce of the farmer’s choosing. This is the perfect way to eat seasonally,

There are now many variations to the traditional CSA model. Sometimes it means you “pay-it-forward”, other times you pay each week, sometimes you pay for a month at a time. Sometimes your share is just produce, other times it’s a mix of produce and other value-added goods. While there is no one definitive way to CSA, one thing is for sure: CSAs are a direct connection to your food and the people who grow, harvest, and produce it.
