About 50 minutes east of Phoenix, snuggled up to the base of Apache Leap, lies the community of Superior, AZ. A welcome addition to this attractive little community is the Farm to Fantastic Farmers Market, located at the new Superior Food Court on Main Street.

After hearing about the grand opening from a friend, I made my way along Highway 60 bound for Superior. What I found will definitely have me visiting again.

The Farm to Fantastic Farmers Market was birthed from a 2017 USDA-funded Food Hub Feasibility Study which indicated a need for fresh produce within the community. The new Market was part of the solution. The idea was two-fold, “We’re working to bring healthy local foods to our communities, as well as support our local food entrepreneurs,” says Food Hub Coordinator Shelbi Lindesmith.

While this vibrant new space offers food accessibility, it is also a beautiful gathering place for the community. The quaint Farmers Market has all of the goodies you could want, from fresh eggs and local produce to baked goods like banana nut bread and other loaves. I, of course, could not leave without a fresh loaf of bread.

My friends and I ordered food from the local vendors - I recommend the fish tacos and freshly baked pizza. We ate our food admiring the beautiful surroundings and sharing conversation with friendly locals who told us about the history of the town as well as their own Superior stories.

After we ate our fill and did some shopping with the local vendors, we took a walk down Main Street - passing the beer garden, local boutiques, and Superior’s newest watering hole, the Barmacy.

This new Farmers Market, a part of the larger Copper Communities Food Hub, will be a treat for those who enjoy local food and culture. If you find yourself free on a Friday evening, the Farm to Fresh Farmers Market in Superior is open 4 – 8p on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month. The Farm to Fresh Farmers Market in Dudleyville is open 9am – 12p on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month. Check them out for a fun day of culture and good food.

The market is still looking for food producers & vendors. Please contact Holly Brantley at (928) 701-3097 or Shelbi Lindesmith at (330) 592-4842 for more information or to be involved.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this post indicated the Food Court Launch was in Globe, when it was in fact held in Superior, AZ. The text above has been updated to reflect this.
