Great cooking starts with great ingredients. And great ingredients start with great farmers. Coming up this month is your chance to meet one of Arizona’s great farmers at Blue Sky Organic Farms at an Open Farm Day! Join their crew to learn about what it means to be a certified-organic operation, get a glimpse of farm life, and jumpstart your resolution to live a healthier lifestyle and live like a localist in 2018.
On Sunday, January 14th (and again on February 25th) from Noon to 3pm, Blue Sky Organic Farms is opening their doors to you! There will be farm tours throughout the day, with the first tour concentrating on the animals at the farm, and the second on the growing process for top-quality organic produce. Throughout the day, there will be samples of food prepared in the Blue Sky kitchen, using their quality ingredients grown on-site at the farm, and they will have entertaining and educational activities for kiddos, too. If samples aren’t enough for you, they also have additional lunch items for sale!
Come on out to their farm in Litchfield Park to ask questions and learn all about why growing certified organic food is so important to them. The farm store will be open, so come ready to shop!
“Even after 19 years of farming I still learn something new everyday on the farm. I love growing produce to support my local community. It’s what it’s all about in the end, communities coming together to support each other, our health, and our environment. Let’s eat!” says Master Farmer David Vose. ““We want you to be as passionate about local organic farming as we are.”
Join the festivities:
Sunday, January 14
4762 N. 189th Avenue in Litchfield Park
The best access is off Perryville Road. From Indian School, turn north on Perryville. You’ll see a large sign on your left about a 1/2 mile up the road. Turn onto the gravel road there, and follow it down until it ends in an open gate. You’ve reached the farm!
Bring family and friends. Come and enjoy an exciting day of fun, food, and education. You might even get a chance to meet some of the friendly chickens, ducks, and goats!
Are you committed to local food, but can’t make it to the Open Farm Days? Throughout the growing season, you can still find Blue Sky’s produce at various Farmers Markets on Saturdays and a full selection of produce at their on-site farm store on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
You don’t have to miss out when you can discover other Arizona farms and the Farmers Markets closer to you at GoodFoodFinderAZ.com.
